Pollution Prevention for Metal Platers - Dragout Reduction: Chapter 02: Overview of Techniques / Proper Parts Racking
Chapter Abstract: This is clip 2 of 7 for this video. The four areas for Dragout reduction outlined in this video include proper parts racking, process bath controls and chemical additions, slow withdrawal rates and increased drainage time, and proper use of available Dragout reduction equipment. Racking parts properly requires an examination of the parts to determine how they will drain completely as they are removed from the tank. Flat parts should be racked so that a corner of the part points towards the bath. Long narrow parts should be vertical. Curved or hollow parts should be racked so the process solution drains easily and does not get trapped inside the part. Parts should be racked in a staggered pattern to reduce drippage onto other parts. Examine the condition of racks. During barrel plating, barrels should be inspected to ensure drain holes are not plugged or damaged.
