The U.S. Department of Energy's three-page fact sheet discusses preliminary activities to
getting started on EMS implementation and explains the use of a gap analysis.
The N.C. Division of Pollution Prevention and Environmental Assistance (DPPEA) Web site offers tips and tools for EMS
implementation.
The Local Government Environmental Assistance Network (LGEAN) provides
environmental management, planning, and regulatory information for local
government elected and appointed officials, managers, and staff. LGEAN provides
this toolbox as a resource to assist local government officials in their efforts
to protect the environment and public health. The tools are designed to help
users perform operations and calculations necessary to fulfill environmental
reporting requirements or guide the development of a helpful environmental
program.
The Environmental Management System Implementation Tool Kit is intended for use by Department of the Army installations seeking to implement an Environmental
Management System (EMS) modeled after the international Environmental Management
System Standard Specification (ISO 14001). Installations can implement an ISO
14001 EMS to meet the requirements of Executive Order 13148 "Greening of
Government through Environmental Leadership".
The step-by-step guidance section uses a motor pool as a generic example, which users can
customize to their specific organization. The virtual toolbox section also
provides some examples of other DoD and commercial organizations' EMS manuals
and/or documents.
The Fort Lewis EMS Manual section provides a completed example of an EMS manual and supporting
documents based on procedures and practices of Fort Lewis, Washington
Directorate of Public Works. The Directorate
of Public Works was certified to the ISO 14001 Standard in September, 2000.
EMS Info is a page dedicated to providing information on environmental management
systems (EMSs) to employees of the Canadian government and to EMS practitioners
around the world. It includes highlights from departments' EMS programs, training materials, tools, links,
and more.
